President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi announced an exceptional monthly grant of EGP 1,500 for irregular workers registered with the Ministry of Labor, to be disbursed for three months from May to July 2026.

At the Labor Day celebration at National Egyptian Railway Industries Company (NERIC) in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, East Port Said, El-Sisi outlined a comprehensive vision to support workers and strengthen the labor market in Egypt.

He also directed exemptions from fees for some categories of irregular workers for skill certification and craft licensing, aimed at encouraging their transition into the formal economy and expanding access to social protection.

In addition, compensation for workplace fatalities was increased from EGP 200,000 to EGP 300,000, while disability compensation will be adjusted according to the degree of injury.

On employment policy, a national labor market platform was launched to boost job creation both domestically and internationally, alongside initiatives to develop youth skills in line with market needs.

He also directed the formation of a permanent committee from four ministries, Labor, Industry, Investment and Foreign Trade, and Planning and Economic Development, to better respond to labor market requirements.

Another committee was formed involving Labor, Education, Technical Education, Higher Education, and Scientific Research to ensure alignment between education outputs and labor market needs.

The president emphasized the importance of receiving regular progress reports on both committees.

He stated that the private sector and the government are working together to create new job opportunities, noting that Egypt’s labor market is estimated at around 60 million people, with unemployment declining to 6.2%.

He also highlighted that 60–65% of Egyptians are under the age of 40, meaning most are either already in or will soon enter the labor market, which places a major responsibility on the state to expand jobs and education through collective national efforts.

He also stressed that “Made in Egypt” is not just a slogan, but a strategic goal aimed at building a strong and competitive economy.
